Like Father, Like Son!
In John 14 we find two especially significant statements Jesus made about Him and God – His Father. The first is in verse 7:
“If you really know me, you will know my Father as well …” (John 14:7, NIV)
And the second, in answer to Philip’s request that amazed Jesus – and not in a good way – is found in verse 9:
“… Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father …” (John 14:9, NIV)
Jesus is pretty clear here. He is just like the Father.
You can also turn this around. The Father is just like Jesus. Whatever characteristics you see in Jesus, you can be sure the Father has as well – the same love, the same wisdom, the same compassion.
Jesus goes on to say this is why He did what He did. Everything He said and did was in response to the Father’s promptings. The miracles He performed happened because the Father was working through Him.
Like Father, like Son!
He then tells us He is going to Heaven to be with the Father. And as a result He will work through us the same way the Father worked through Him!
So, we will be doing the same sort of things He did, except on an even larger scale! And in order to accomplish this He will give us whatever we ask for in His name!!
You do remember you become God’s son or daughter when you give yourself to Him, right?
Well, like Father, like son or daughter!
Here’s all this in Jesus’ words:
“Truly I tell you, the one who believes in me will also do the works that I do. And he will do even greater works than these, because I am going to the Father. Whatever you ask in my name, I will do it so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.” (John 14:12-14, NIV)
Jesus has some big things in mind for you and me as His children. Don’t settle for anything less.
